GED Awareness Week

Last year adult education programs and local workforce investment boards throughout the commonwealth worked together to promote the benefits of attaining a GED and increase testing. This year the Virginia Workforce Council and Governor Kaine have indicated their support for a GED and Lifelong Learning Awareness Week, to be held the week of October 19, 2009. 

This week will build on the efforts of last year’s GED Week, but this year will stress that the GED is only a starting point.  The GED will allow the individuals who hold it to embark on a lifetime of learning and career training that will lead to ever higher levels of employment and self sufficiency.  This also underscores a focus on career pathways along the lines of “Bridging Business and Education for the 21st Century Workforce” (Virginia’s state career pathways plan).
